"Aww, come on, [Name]! I'm not THAT bad!" he whined.
"Oh, yes, Alfred Jones. You are." You retorted.
His wide eyes looked at you pleadingly, his lips pursed, forcing you to look otherwise.
"I'll pass the class if you help me!" He exclaimed.
"You can't really expect me to spend my spare time trying to make YOU pass World History and Geography, can you?"
His eyes still looked at you, pleadingly.
"W-Why...don't you ask Mattie to help you?" You replied, getting slightly flustered.
"He doesn't wanna teach me." Alfred pouted. You looked towards Matthew, who was busy reading some winter sports magazine.
"What is this, Mattie? Why don't you help-"
"He's never asked me." He replied swiftly, making you turn your gaze back at Alfred, who gulped, ever so slightly.
Sighing, you looked up at the ceiling. "Fine, I'll help you, okay?"
Alfred punched the ceiling, exclaiming something about how 'the hero always wins'. You yelped slightly, as he pulled you into a quick hug, and pecked your cheek.
Letting your hair fall forward, so that it would cover your slightly blushing cheeks, you stepped back.
"I think we should start studying for that test..." You mumbled, quickly turning away, and walking off to get your books.
As you turned around, you saw Matthew opening the door, about to leave.
"Hey, Mattie! Where're you going?" You exclaimed, more instinctively than anything.
"Out" he replied simply, before he left the door close.
"So, [Name]...can this count as our first date?"
"Shut up, Al."
"Well...you're calling me by my nickname. That's a start, right?"

Shoving his hands deeper into his pockets, to keep them warm from the biting cold wind, Matthew trudged down the road, aimlessly, but determinedly walking. Seeing the way Al always treated [Name] made him furious. She wasn't to be another one of his playthings...but what hurt him even more was that Al really was serious about her. He could tell, in the way Al spoke about her, in the way he was always so...eager, to get her attention.
And, why...why not? She was absolutely worth it. Sure, he was head-over-heels for her, too, but...there's no way that he could tell her. The friendship meant too much to him.
A hand rested on his shoulder, making him jump. Turning around, he came face-to-face with Francis, who looked at him curiously.
"I'd been calling you name for quite a while, Matthieu" he had always insisted on using the French variant of his name. "But...you seemed to be lost."
"I...erm...I was thinking about something, that's all."
"Alors, ça va?"
"Ça va, et vous?"
"Non, non...I can tell, mon cher, something is wrong, non?"
Matthew sighed, as he continued walking. "Well...you know Arthur, well...his cousin-"
"Une belle dame, n'est-ce pas?"
Matthew looked up at him, but he was merely smiling.
"And it seems like mon petit Matthieu likes her, j'ai raison, n'est-ce pas?"
Matthew nodded, ever so slightly.
"So, what is the problem?"
"Alfred likes her too, Francis."
Francis scoffed, and Matthew still stared at the ground, as they walked. It was strange to be telling Francis all this, but he trusted Francis more than anyone else, because he felt like he knew more to Francis than anyone else.
"Alors, you must use séduction, no?" Francis commented, after a pause.
Matthew glared at him. "I hope you're meaning in the French sense of charming other, Francis."
"Mon cher, I mean it whichever way you want." He replied, making a swift blush rise to Matthew's cheeks.
"But, pas de souci, I know just what you should do..."
Matthew listened intently.

"Damn, it, Al!" You exclaimed, exasperated. "Australia is NOT in Europe! It's not the same as Austria!"
I knew that" He replied.
"Err...no, you didn't. Not according to this." You pointed at the homework sheet you'd just gotten him to fill out.
"Well…they're close.....right?"
You rested your head lightly on the desk, wondering how much longer this would drag on for. But, just at that moment, you heard the front door open, and looked up to see Matthew entering.
Randomly running up to him, and tackling him in a hug, you started mock-crying.
"Oh, Matthew, I finally get why you don't want to teach him!" You laughed through your mock-crying.
Taken aback, it took Matthew a while, but he soon embraced you back, lightly.
"Oi, it wasn't that bad! Just about three mistakes!" Alfred retorted, from behind.
"Out of five!" You laughed, and so did Matthew.
"H-Hey, [Name]..." Matthew started off, making you look up at him. "I…kind of need your help with something."
"Anything for you!" You replied, laughing.
"Well...you know how I'm not the best at public speaking...I have this...speech coming up, so I was...wondering if you could help-"
"Help you prepare? Of course I would!"
Matthew gave you a genuine smile, which made your stomach turn in the strangest manner. "Thanks, [Name]."
"Don't mention it."

The time was World War II

three men stood in a darkened room pouring over papers that laid spread out on a small metal table.
"Vee
Are you sure this is going to work?" a voice said from the darkness. There was a cold laugh.

It had already been a month since you started your first year at university. You haven't quite gotten used to it; it is so much different than your small town high school. The crowds were bigger, the school was MUCH bigger and you spent a good hour or so everyday between classes to try and memorize what's in and around the school with little success.
But you did manage to find a good study spot while exploring. The school's library was four stories high and on the third floor had a small sitting area with chairs and couches and it was right behind the glass clock tower which gave an amazing view of (your city).
While you were studying in yo

Needless to say the trip down to Louisiana seemed like forever. Alfred and I left early in the morning with him being the first to drive. We had a printed copy of directions from Mapquest to help us along the way. Every three hours, we would stop for a rest and then switch off for driving. When night fell, one of us would sleep in the back seat, and we traded off every five hours instead. For me, night driving was the worst. I had to stop twice to get something to wake me up.
I was sleeping when we arrived in New Orleans. Alfred didn't wake me up until we got to the hotel. Our room had two beds. It had a small deck where we could look down a
